Two’s Company – Elderhomeshare win win for older homeowners and renters!

Elderhomeshare is a new and forward thinking service that looks to match up older homeowners who have a room to rent, with accommodation seekers who have gone through a background check including Garda vetting.

Elderhomeshare is a solution for those who are finding the stress of the rental market exceptionally difficult and for homeowners who would like to utilise the available space in their home in a beneficial way. Elderhomeshare is the first service of this kind to operate out of Dublin and provide assistance to professional renters and older homeowners.

Saoirse Sheridan founder of Elderhomeshare came up with the idea when she was looking for a solution to her own rental situation. Putting her thinking cap on, she came up with the idea of Elderhomeshare.

Currently there is a shortage of accommodation in Dublin and with over 100,000 older home owners living alone in Co Dublin there is a supply of potential rental space that is not being accessed. By matching up suitable vetted renters to live with older homeowners who would like to take advantage of the extra space in their home perhaps address issues of security, revenue and loneliness Elderhomeshare provides a solution.

The service works by bringing together suitable vetted tenants who are working professionals or third level students to live with older home owner with a room to rent. There is a vetting process for both the potential tenant this includes reference checks and Garda vetting and the home owner.

Making sure the potential tenant is agreeable and comfortable with the elderhomeshare living arrangement such as not bringing people into the home of the homeowner is all part of the process. There are fees for vetting and successful placement of a tenant both for the renter and the homeowner.
