'Finished – Not Us' by Teresa O'Brien
17 November 2011
Categories : Poems

We’ve been there – done it – got the T-shirt,
ploughed, sowed and reaped – for better
or for worse,
Are we past our sell-by date? – no – not us!
nor can our worth be measured by the
contents of our purse,
Adorned with pearls of wisdom – we
still may ‘cut a dash’ – plenty more
to offer – try us – ask!
Some of us would rather sit and ponder
the navel – earned the right to rest, or
continue as we’re able,
Reflective, selective, objective, or defective,
‘to be or not to be’ – the answer – not
the question,
patronised or recognised – does it rest on
who or what we’ve been – or just that
we are only keen?
So don’t dismiss because we’re old –
there you have it – now you’re told!
