"Don't wear black, " she said
"Or weep too many tears
I may soon be dead
But I've lived my share of years"

"Don't wear black, " she said
"Or dirges and laments play.
Up high, hold your head
As for my soul you pray."

"Don't wear black, " she said
"I've not gone too far away
I've only gone a bit ahead
We'll meet again someday"

"Don't wear black, " she said
It's not the last goodbye
And as my will is being read
Please, don't sob and cry.

"Don't wear black, " she said
"My family, and my friends;
Yes, I may be dead
But love, that never ends.
